Thankful Thursday

Good morning everyone! I hope this week is flying by for you!

Just a quick post.

Today, I have a topcoat to share with you. This is a shimmery burgundy topcoat. I love how this looks! I used two coats over a Revlon blue jelly. My next few posts will be this topcoat layered over different colors. Taking pics of this beauty was hard! I normally just stand under my lamp using my iPad and snap away. I just could not capture the awesomeness. And, since a girl's gotta do what she must. I went to my bathroom and stood on the tub! O.O haha! So, having said that. These pics are not the best as far as hand position, but I did capture the true color! :D

Today, is Thankful Thursday. I haven't posted a Thankful Thursday post for a while now. Let's slow down and take few seconds of time and be thankful for something because there's always something to be thankful for.

Have a great day!

Thankful Thursday!

Hi everyone, I hope y'all's is flying by. Mine sure is!

Yesterday, I posted sneak peek of today's mani on IG. For some reason I thought it was Tuesday! Haha!

Today, I have a fuchsia with blue and pink shimmer I custom made for a lady I met last July. We met at my favorite sushi restaurant RA. She was complimenting my mani and wanted to know where she could get it. When I told I made it, she asked if I would create a fuchsia for her. This is what I came up with. I love it! I think it would look great on any skin tone. I used two coats and topped with Oh So Wet TC.

And, because it is Thankful Thursday. I'd like to say thank you to my co-worker Betsy. Some of you know I come from a background in restaurant management, so going from that to working in a law firm is very different. I'm always asking her questions, she patiently answers, never making me feel as if I'm troubling her.

Thank you Betsy, your an amazing teacher!

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone, It's Thankful Thursday! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I was on the go all through the four day weekend. I think it should be mandatory to have 3 day work weeks! Think our jobs would allow that? Yeah, right! Haha! Anyway, on to the post.

For those who don't know why I do Thankful Thursday posts. Life sometimes gets so busy and hectic. We let the small things go by unnoticed. This a way for me to slow down and smell the roses, so to speak. To know there is always something to be thankful for.

This Thankful Thursday I'm thankful to my cousin Marci. I posted a while back how she told me about a job opening where she works. Long story short. I got the job. The best part is I get to see her everyday! Yes, that last part was in the post too. Haha! Ok, back on track. If you follow me on social media, I've mentioned new products are going to be added this year. I've been so busy making testing, and giving products to my family and friends to try. Where does Marci come in? Well, Marci gets the uncut version. The version that shows me what to improve on. I told her to be honest and since we're related, boy is she honest! She tells me, "Cousin, you want me to be honest, right?" She takes home all these goodies, her kiddos think I'm the coolest cousin ever! Ok, so, I am! Haha!

Thank you cousin, for always supporting me, believing in my dream, for giving me ideas, and brainstorming with me. I love you.

Have a great day! I promise to get on track and post more often.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! To any of you who don't honor/recognize/celebrate this day. Happy Thursday to you! :D

Warning: Long post and I speak about my faith.

Dear Lord,

I want to thank You for Your gracious hand of favor on me this year. Funky Nails was launched and what an amazing journey it has been, with many great things happening next year. I have a wonderful family, two awesome sons and a beautiful daughter. We're a wild and crazy bunch and I wouldn't change that for anything. My boyfriend is a little cra-zay, but he's mine and I love him. Thank you Lord for You say, "With long life You will satisfy us and show us Your salvation!” My mom is here and cancer free because You are faithful to Your word. Thank you! You filled my life with so many wonderful people.

My life may not be perfect, but it's the life You created just for me. I'm not here to run anyone's race but my own, because it's the one You've destined me to win. I don't need anyone to approve me. You approved me before I was even born. Thank you!

Ok, I've said this before and I'll say it again. :D

"Our lives have been divinely linked together. I can't write my life story without including you. You can't write your's without including me. God connected us together to make us better. Proverbs says, As iron sharpens iron, so man sharpens another." ~Joel Osteen

I'd like to thank these people. Without you my life would not be the same.

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone :D I hope you all are having a fabulous Thankful Thursday!

I have so much to be thankful for. I'll just keep it simple though.

I would like to thank my cousin
Marci. Two weeks ago she sent me a possible job lead. Well, I got the job! Yay! I was so nervous because it's not anything I've done before. But, as always God has me in the palm of his hands and has cast his gracious hand of favor on me again! I get play dress up and talk to people all day long! The best part is, I rarely see my cousin and now I get to see her everyday! How awesome is that! I love, love, love it!

Thank you cousin!

Have a great day y'all!

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone :D I hope this Thankful Thursday has started off awesome for you all. For me it has! Yesterday, @SISTERBRATION twitted about Oprah's Lifeclass coming to Houston and how to apply for tickets. So, I applied. The tickets were drawn lotto style. In my excitement I totally forgot to retweet, but I did retweet @GrowingOWN when she twitted about it. Anyway, I was picked! I couldn't believe it! My best friend Julie and I will be attending! Yay! I hope to you ladies there!

Today's Thankful Thursday post is going to be a bit different and it's a long.

Last week my boyfriend and I attended his cousin Joey's funeral. The death of a loved is always hard. One never knows what to say. All I knew to do was hug the grieving family. My condolences to him and his family.

After the funeral when we got home, my boyfriend put a paper on the refrigerator. I was curious as to what it was. So I started reading and the tears just started flowing. These were poems Joey had written. So, I'm going to share them with you all. I'm not going to edit them. At the end I'll post some thoughts.

Joey's introduction of himself:

I was born with Cerebral Palsy, and I am confined to a wheelchair. I cannot speak. As a result it is very hard for me to communicate with people.

I use a computer for my writing, it has a special device called, Kenx. The device allows me to use the computer with a head switch, Because I cannot use my hands.

I went to school in Kenedy Texas, where I was place in a special education class. I learned very little there.

I finely graduated and then I went to Palo Alto College part time in San Antonio Texas Where I made the president list twice.

I started writing when I was seventeen years old, I'm now twenty seven.

My work includes, No Where To Turn, If They Could See Me Now, and Feelings. And several other poems.

If They Could See Me Now

I arrived here one cold December night. The trip to life was a hard one. the doors of life almost closed. My parents decided to to call me Joseph, to them nothing was wrong, Mother began to notice something was wrong. When she put me on my stomach I would not pick up my head, my hands were always closed. My parents took me to a doctor in San Antonio. The doctor said, I had Cerebral Palsy and would be mentally retarded. I would like to see that doctor now, I wonder what she would say? would she talk to me or about me?

                                                              Feeling

I can't express my true feelings so I'm writing on a machine that has no feelings.
It can't hug me & tell me it's alright, it will get better.
Oh god, how I wish that I could walk. Oh how I wish I could sing & dance.
God why did you send me down this way?
I know that you must have send me down this way for a purpose, but what was that purpose?

Ok, my thoughts. I believe we all have a purpose. I was deeply touched when I read 'Feelings' his life did/does have purpose. That's why I decided to share his story. Joey did not let his physical condition defeat him. He forged on like a true soldier. Joey taught me a great lesson. As long as we have breath and a heartbeat, we have purpose. We're all faced with obstacles and challenges in life. Like Joey, we should be forging on, living our best lives right here, right now! Joey, I know you're in Heaven singing and dancing! You're making sure we receive all of God's blessings!

When I asked his sister Kathleen if I could share his poems here's what she said, "Of course!!! If it were up to him, he'd want them spread around the world!" Thank you K for allowing me the privilege of sharing your remarkable brother!

I don't ask much, but today, I'm asking you all to share this wonderful man's story.

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone. :D It's Thankful Thursday! And, indeed it has been a most fantastic Thankful Thursday!

Yesterday, I went to school to officially sign out, so I can graduate on time. Well, they said I had to do 2 more days of at least 7.5 hours each day at my extern site. I was not happy about that at all. But, it is what it. So, today, I'm seeing patients and they just kept me smiling and laughing all day! One guy gained a little weight. He says, "Gosh, I'm getting fat, ugh." Which, by the way he was not. I looked at him and said, "Sir, I will not feel sorry for you. Women have been struggling with this since forever." All the while laughing. He said, "Girl, you are one crazy white lady!" One patient's blood pressure was on the high side. The patient say's "I just get nervous around white folks!" HAHA He was joking of course. Then, a lady patient that takes steroid shots works out so much because she doesn't want to get bloated. She looked good to me. Anyway, we were talking about the bloating side effects of steroid shots. Well, she stands up and just rubs her body down and says, "BUT I LOOK GOOD!" OMG, she just had me cracking up!

They say laughter is the best medicine. I have to say I'll be good and healthy for a while. Thank you!

Then, I go to the post office to pick up a package. And, much to my amazement it's an awesome nail mail package from Inkypolisholicious I was so shocked! I quickly opened the package and there was a bag full of polish and snacks. Of course, I go for the food first! HEHE That was just icing the cake! Check out their blog. It's run by two great cousins. I have nicknames for them, Inky and Licious. So go check out Inky and Licious.

Thank you so much girls!

Have a great day!

P.S.
The school called and said, I only have to do one day! YAY!

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! It's Thankful Thursday. I hope you all are having a fabulous week!

Welcome new followers! Thank you for being here. I do Thankful Thursday posts to keep me grounded and humble. To just take a moment and give thanks to and for all the wonderful people and things in my life.

Today, I'm thankful for my wonderful friend Yessenia. Sometimes, even encouragers need encouragement. Sometimes when this road I'm traveling seems like it's so hard and I want to just stop and take the easy way. She's there with her wonderful words of encouragement. She doesn't even know it. I read her words and say to myself, "I'm not the only one trying to make a difference." Our paths may be different, but the goal is the same; To empower people to go after their dreams.

Thank you Yesenia for your daily words of encouragement.

Have a great day!

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! Happy Thankful Thursday! I hope y'all's week has been great! Today is my last day at my extern site, YAY!

Today, I'm thankful for the hash tag #godisgood. Seems kinda silly right? Not at all. Through that hash tag I met an awesome young man named La'Garien J Thomas. I really don't know how it happened actually. One day twitter told me I had a new follower. So, I look at his profile and see his website http://www.appointedwords.com and decided to have a look see. I read his testimony and checked out his daily tips and was quite impressed with this young man. I don't think he's even 20 years old or just barely there. His passion and enthusiasm for God inspired me! He also has a Facebook page, I accidentally friend requested his personal Facebook, instead of liking his page, haha, anyway he accepted. How awesome is that! He also has an inspirational book coming out around the end of this month. If you all follow me on Twitter and Instagram, you all know I love devotional books. So, I can't wait to buy it! I believe there's a reason this young man and I crossed paths. I may not what it is right now, but I know in time God will reveal his reasons. Even though we're almost 20 years apart in age, it just goes to show that the old and young can learn and grow from each other. Wait, I ain't old! Y'all know what I mean! Hehe!

Thank you hash tag #godisgood.

Have a great day :D

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone, I hope y'all's week has been great so far :D

Today, I'm thankful to a lady named Melissa Booker. Sunday, we went to the Cheesecake Factory. Melissa was our server. We were about to pray when she took a hold of my bf and Kellie's daughter's hand. My bf thought she wanted a good tip. Not the case. After we prayed she went on to tell some of her story and God's work in her life. She asked us to keep her and her husband Keith in our prayers. You see, I'd been struggling with something and here she was boldly declaring her faith in God and claiming God's promises to people she doesn't know. I know Melissa will probably never see this post, but thank you, you reminded me never to be embarrassed or uncomfortable sharing my faith.

Have a great day everyone :D

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone, I hope where y'all are at it's sunny and beautiful! Here in H-Town it's dark and rainy. I'll just keep saying, "This is the day the Lord has made, I'll rejoice and be glad in it!"

This Thankful Thursday, I want to thank my wonderful boyfriend Jesse. I'm so conservative and serious all the time, he brings out the childlike qualities in me that I try so hard not to show anyone. So, the other day I was in bed and said to myself, "I'm totally gonna scare him!" So, he gets in bed and I jump up and and say, "ROAR!" OMG, he got so scared! Hehe! So, now he's on a mission to pay me back. Haha! It's ok, I have plans for you mister!

Thank you honey, for being the wonderful God seeking man you are and bringing out my playful side.

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone :D I hope the week has flown by for y'all! I've been super busy, but I'm loving my externship!

Ok, I know it's a late post, but I didn't want to miss Thankful Thursday. If, you follow me on twitter you saw I was at my favorite supply store last week. Well, the owner asked me why I buy so many polish bottles. So, tell him. He then proceeds to tell me about someone who started making nail polish in their garage. I can't exactly remember who he said though, sorry. He says, "If they can do it so can you." I was like how nice, this man doesn't know me. So, to the owner of Best Nail Supply in H-Town thank you for your encouraging words. You made my day even brighter than it was! :D

Have a great day :D

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone, It's Thankful Thursday! I hope y'all's week has been great so far.

Some of you know why I started to do Thankful Thursday posts. For those of you new to Funky Nails, I started thinking about Thanksgiving, how we give thanks for the many blessing in our lives on this one day. It seems we get so busy living life, trying to survive in this world, we don't take the time to enjoy the small everday blessings. That's how it was for me. I was moving so fast, working all the time, not taking time to enjoy the people and things God was so generously providing me. While, I'm still a work in progress. I've come a long way from the Minnie that was going through life at lightning speed. My mom always says, "You came into this world in 30 minutes. You were in such a hurry to get out and you haven't stopped since." These posts are way for me to slow down, stay humble, and give thanks for the everday day blessings in my life. Sometimes, I miss a week. But, I do them more than I don't and that's what matters :D

This Thankful Thursday I'm thankful for my personal facebook friends. They see Funky Nails creations before I post them for the world to see. I'm always talking about nail polish or showing swatches of my creations. Like they even care about nail polish or what I think are pretty colors, lables or business cards. They could've deleted me, but they didn't. They've been so supportive and patient with me. They share my blog link, they share my shop link, they've purchased Funky Nails polish, they give me kind, supportive, and encouraging words. It's their (and your's too) strength along with God's love and grace that push me to be best me I can possibly be. I couldn't have asked for better friends! Thank you :D

Have a great day everyone.

P.S,
If you haven't entered my Funky Nails Thankful Thursday giveaway now's a great time! Just click here, new followers are always welcome :D

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone, I hope y'all's weeks has been a great one. The week has literally flown by for me. So much to do!

It's Thankful Thursday. I'm thankful to Susan from the The Subtle Shimmer. I consider her to be my  blogger bestie :D I've shared so many of my dreams and goals, and where I want to take Funky Nails in the future. She's probably Funky Nailed out. Haha! Getting Funky Nails started has been an awesome experience, with it's rewards and it's challenges. She's been a great source of information and has given me some wonderful advice. Sometimes, people just don't have time or just don't want to help. Not Susan, every time I've reached out to her, she's been quick to respond. She's encouraged and supported me from the very beginning of my journey. Thank you Susan for being a wonderful friend to me.

Have a great day everyone! :D

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone, I hope you all are having an awesome week so far. I started my externship yesterday. It was a very uneventful day, all I did was file faxes. Haha!  Wednesdays are admin days. I was told today is going to be pretty busy though. Hurry up Friday so I can do my nails!

I missed two Thankful Thursdays, I really love doing these posts because they keep me humble. And, I'm always amazed at all the kindess shown to me. I know I missed two weeks, as long I do them more often than not, that's what matters :D

Today I'm very thankful to some fellow bloggers. Last year when I started Funky Frenchies Blog I wrote several introduction letters to some established blogs. I was so nervous when I sent them, because you never know how some people will respond (some didn't.) I didn't know what the proper blogger etiquette was, but I knew not to drop my link in the comments section. Ok, so I didn't, but I kept reading that it was a no no. Just to be clear, I never did that.  Anyway, I want to thank these wonderful ladies for welcoming me to the nail polish community and making me feel at ease.

Carolina from Colores de Carol

Jane from Nailside

Carli from Vintage Musings of a Modern Pinup

Amy Grace from The Polished Perfectionist

Thank you ladies for setting a great example for this new comer and I hope I'm just a kind as you all have been to me.

Have a great day:D

Thankful Thursday

Hi y'all, It's Thankful Thursday. I hope the week is flying by for you all.

I'm so thankful to have a wonderful friend whom I call Miss Baraka. Miss Baraka was my classmate until 2 months ago. We started school at the same time. We prayed and supported each other with our school work. She's the one who turned me on to the nail supply store that I now go to for most of my supplies. I never would have known about this store had she not told me. It's only 15 minutes away and I never knew. Now, I'm in there at least once a week. I can buy OPI's for $4, CC's for $4 (better deal at Ross though, if you can find them) Orly's for $4 (not the htf's though), Essie's for $4, color wheels for $2.50 (at Sally's they're 4+.) You name it, I can almost be sure it's there. I buy nail polish bottles for .33, but those I just use to experiment with, because she won't order a smaller handle for me. Miss Baraka was out and about one day and decided to go in there to see if they had anything useful that I may need. You see why I'm thankful for Miss Baraka? She's an awesome lady!

Have a great day everyone! :D
